March weather is notoriously fickle. One day calls for a statement coat, the next for a breezy maxi dress. It’s the time of year when checking the forecast each morning feels like spinning a roulette wheel—will it be sunshine and 75 degrees, or 45 with steady rain?

Of course, that shouldn’t stop you from taking advantage of all Bergen has to offer. Indoors or outdoors, you’ll find something to make you laugh, make you smile and get you out of the house this weekend. Here are a few options for each:

Stay inside

March 13–14

  • See “viral sensation” (over 12 million followers on TikTok is nothing to sneeze at) and funnyman Kel Perez at Bananas Comedy Club in Rutherford. The show will be filled with Perez’s engaging storytelling and sharp wit. Friday’s show is at 7 p.m., and Saturday performances start at 7 and 9:30 p.m. See website for tickets.

March 14

  • Center yourself and melt away your stress at Paramus’ Bergen Town Center, which is hosting a free Yoga for the Soul session! Join teacher Kirsten Lane at the mall’s Center Court to soothe your mind and strengthen your body. The class is free, and starts at 9 a.m.; yoga mats not provided, so remember to bring your own.
  • For magic, slapstick and lots of laughs, head over to Ramapo College in Mahwah and see Mario the Maker Magician. This is an all-ages family theater experience featured on both The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Sesame Street. The show starts at 2 p.m. Pick up tickets online.

March 14–15

  • Bergen County Players in Oradell present opening weekend of The Cake, a dramatic comedy about faith, family and baking. There also will be a spread of hand-crafted bakery treats, coffee and sweet tea, completely free of charge, available before this weekend’s shows. On Saturday, the reception at 7:15 p.m. and the show starts at 8. On Sunday, the reception is at 1:15 p.m. and the show is at 2. See website for tickets.

March 15

  • Take the kids to see a classic children’s show come to life when The Cat in the Hat takes the Bergen Performing Arts Center stage in Englewood. Enjoy a new take on the story that has captivated children for over 50 years. Shows are at 1 and 4 p.m. Pick up tickets online.

March 14

  • Tenafly Nature Center’s popular Seasonal Scavenger Hunt returns for another year. Perfect for families with kids, this event will give you and your group a printed set of clues to help you independently solve nature riddles along Nature Center trails. The fun starts at 1 p.m.; see website for registration.
  • At the Teaneck Creek Conservancy, you can take part in Tree At The Creek and make a difference to the local environment. Volunteers will help repair, replace or expand tree cages in addition to cutting back vegetation to help protect and nurture newly planted trees. This event is free, but registration is required. March 15

  • Ready to run for a great cause? Lyndhurst American Legion Post 139 is holding its 5K Fundraiser in Lyndhurst. Lace up your sneakers, try to beat your best time and support local veterans. See website for registration and more. The race starts a 9 a.m.
  • Take a stroll and see some birds with Bergen County Audubon Society, which is hosting a birding field trip at the Frank Chapmen Trail in Teaneck. Birders of all levels are welcome.   • Catch free live music at Closter Nature Center with Music by the Pond. Both professional and amateur musicians will come together to share their talents with you. And you can join in—bring your instrument and take the stage! Everything kicks off at 2 p.m. See website for more details.

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up on March 17, which means that the Luck of the Irish is with us all—including with the weather forecast. Here are some St. Paddy’s celebrations around Bergen:

March 13

  • At the Williams Center in Rutherford, check out Paddy’s Rave, which is billed as “NJ’s Best St. Paddy’s Dance Party.” Wear green and have a great time! This event starts at 9 p.m. and is meant for the 21+ crowd. See website for tickets.

March 14

  • At Wild Duck Pond in Ridgewood, you can run the St. Patrick’s-themed GoodWill Shamrock Shuffle 5K to support research for Angelman Syndrome (AS), a rare neurological disorder. The run starts at 8 a.m. For registration and more, see the event’s website.
  • The Madelyn Monaghan Trio stops by the Barrymore Film Center in Fort Lee for An Evening of Celtic Music. Listen to a wide variety of Celtic music, from well-loved Irish ballads and to American folk songs to traditional Scottish pipe and whistle tunes. March 15

  • The 44th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade steps off in Bergenfield at 2 p.m., led by Grand Marshal Brian Clancy. The parade with be proceeded by a 1 p.m. flag raising at Roy Brown Middle School.

March 17

  • Ramsey’s Shannon Rose holds its annual St. Patrick’s celebration from 11 a.m. on with step dancers, bag pipers and an expanded menu that spotlights Ireland’s best. See their website for more information.
