Treat Your Dad To A Perfect Day

Whether your father likes golf, shopping or tasty sips, you can craft a Father’s Day itinerary that he’ll love.
2 Treat Dad

As you fill out your June social calendar with graduation parties and backyard cookouts, don’t forget to circle Sunday, June 21—that’s Father’s Day!

We love celebrating the dads in our lives just as much as, we hope, all our dads appreciate being recognized on his day. Some guys just want to grill and watch a game on Father’s Day, and others are looking for a reprieve from yard work and bickering children. But there’s much more to do with your guy on his special day, particularly in Bergen County. Make sure your plan ahead and check out:

Race against him. If you and your dad love to swim, bike and run, the 44th annual Wyckoff/Franklin Lakes Triathlon takes place Saturday, June 20. It’s open to individuals and relays (so you can partner with Dad too if you’d rather be teammates).

Cast a line with him. Fishing is a classic father-child activity for a reason, and there are many options in Bergen County where you can cast a line and see what bites. New Jersey Fish and Wildlife has a comprehensive list, but we recommend the MacMillan Reservoir at Ramapo Valley County Reservation and Cooper’s Park Pond in Bergenfield. (And don’t forget to pick up your New Jersey fishing license before you head out!

Raise a glass with him. Toast the man who meant so much to your life and enjoy an afternoon at one of Bergen’s craft breweries. Hackensack Brewing in Hackensack, Gearblock Brewing in Waldwick and Bolero Snort in Carlstadt have assorted beers on tap—or take a four-pack or growler home to enjoy on your own patio.

Spoil him on a shopping spree. Why give another polo shirt that he won’t wear when you can let him pick out something he will actually use? American Dream stores are open on Sunday, so head to the East Rutherford mall and treat him to new shirts, sporty sneakers or the latest tech device.

Challenge him to a round of 18. Whether he’s a competitive golfer or simply enjoys being on the greens, a day of golf can be memorable for both of you. With six public facilities, Bergen County’s golf courses still have plenty of tee times available on Father’s Day—but make sure you reach out to book soon!

Splash around with him. Paddling in a tandem kayak at Overpeck County Park in Leonia with the Hackensack Riverkeeper offers great bonding time under the sun—it’s just the two of you working as a team to journey across the water. Overpeck Creek is relatively calm, so kayaking here is suitable for all skill levels.
