All Together Now!
In Fort Lee, a community joins together in a dance to connect past and present.

Nothing draws people together quite like the arts, and dance is no exception. In Fort Lee, members of the local Kebtah community, including Fort Lee resident Merikara Saikaptah, came together to dance after a day of workshops and talks. “The women in the video had just completed a workshop dedicated to serving the maternal community, and their success made the gathering especially meaningful,” says Saikaptah, who captured the moment on her Instagram. In the video, the ladies perform a song and dance created by the Dogon Are Walking Tour as a way to “engage communities while sharing the importance of Indigenous cultural knowledge and its relevance to the challenges people face today,” according to Saikaptah. She adds, “We hope it inspires more people to explore Indigenous traditions, honor ancestral knowledge and become part of the work toward building stronger and healthier communities through cultural education.”
