Enjoy Weekend Fun At These 10 Events
Live music, one-of-a-kind experiences and more mean you don’t need to leave Bergen for a good time.
It’s been a long month of patriotic displays and soccer thrills, but that doesn’t mean summer fun and excitement are over in Bergen County.
There are lots of ways to keep cool in our own backyards, of course—and you’ll also find a great lineup of events, sure to keep everyone entertained. Check out these options:
July 24
- Celebrate one of America’s greatest bands at the Williams Center in Rutherford. The Music Of The Beach Boys featuring Pet Sounds Live kicks off at 7 p.m. You’ll hear Pet Sounds—Brian Wilson’s masterpiece—in its entirety along with fan-favorite hits and deep cuts from The Beach Boys’ catalog. The show also features narration and multimedia elements that bring the album to life.
- Hackensack Performing Arts Center’s Sounds of Summer outdoor concert series continues at Atlantic Street Park. Jungle Habitat plays this week, and is sure to deliver a high-energy show for all. The show starts at 7 p.m. and is free.
July 25
- At the Alpine Picnic Area at Palisades Interstate Park, you can take part in Sea Glass Hunt, a guided children’s hike that starts at 11 a.m. The hike covers about 1-mile round-trip distance in about 1.5 hours on easy trails, and will include beach combing on the Hudson. Bring a container to hold your treasures!
- If you’re looking for a great night of incredible music, head to Teaneck’s Debonair Music Hall. Rock out with Seconds Out: A Tribute To The Music Of Genesis, a five-piece group from Long Island known for recreating the band’s sound—from the Phil Collins era to Peter Gabriel’s early years. (They won’t, however, settle the debate over which era was better.) The show starts at 7 p.m.
- Something new comes to American Dream in East Rutherford when the Victory Fighting League visits. This is the first ever mixed-martial arts event to take place at the venue, featuring 13 bouts, seven amateur and six professional, with the main event showcasing Solomon Renfro vs. Christopher Guariglia. The fights kick off at 7 p.m.
- Head over to Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood for the “last farewell tour” of Little Feat, a celebrated rock band originally founded by Frank Zappa. Come celebrate an incredible legacy of music. Doors open at 8 p.m.
July 26
- Get outside early with MEVO, which hosts a Sunday Farm Volunteer Day at Fresh Roots Farm in Mahwah starting at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers will help harvest, weed, mulch and much more—and get to spend time out in the sunshine while they do it.
- Join Bergen County Audubon Society at Richard DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst for the 17th Annual Butterfly Day. Celebrate some of the most colorful creatures in the animal kingdom with guided walks, lectures, children’s activities and a kids’ costume contest (for ages 12 and under), along with information tables, music and more. The festivities begin at 10 a.m.
- In Mahwah, listen to classic rock sounds with popular local band The Kootz, who come to the Mahwah Library’s Winter Room. Take in the music of The Beatles, Steve Winwood, Bob Dylan, the Byrds and more in an intimate setting. The music starts at 2 p.m.
- You and your family can experience the magic of the outdoors like never before at the Tenafly Nature Center’s Fireflies & Faeries event starting at 2:30 p.m. This whimsical event invites you to wander the center lit up with twinkling lights and browse the brand-new fairy houses on display.
