4 Breweries for a Hand-Crafted Bergen Beer
Don’t let the summer go by without trying a beer (or three) from these Bergen County breweries, which are among the best in the Garden State.

Want some fresh Jersey tomatoes, corn…and beer? A Monmouth County assemblyman has plans later this year to present a new legislation that would allow New Jersey farmers to set up their own micro-breweries, where they can sell the beer they make on their farm. It’s an interesting concept that would present even more lucrative opportunities for farmers, and give whole new meaning to the “Garden State.”
And though Bergen County doesn’t have the vast farmland as does, say, Sussex or Hunterdon counties, us North Jersey folk do have some pretty great breweries that brew their own beer. While we wait to find out if this proposed legislation becomes a law, here are four Bergen-based breweries where you can enjoy a refreshing, craft brewskie (or three) before the end of summer.
The Alementary Brewing Co., Hackensack. Come for the beer garden, stay for the ridiculous selection of pale ales, stouts, lagers and more. These guys are constantly experimenting with new flavor profiles (check out their beer of the week on their Instagram page @alementary), so customers will never get bored. Also, bring your pup along, as the outdoor seating area and beer garden here is as dog-friendly as they come.

Bolero Snort Brewery, Carlstadt. A rotating list of beers keeps things interesting at this 30 Barrel American-Made brewhouse and public tasting room. They’re known for their Hoof Crafted Ales and Lagers, but the menu features a “core assortment,” a “recurring” assortment and “seasonal brews” to fit every taste bud. You can also grab some beers on the go, plus they deliver Monday-Friday within a certain radius.
*316 20th St., Carlstadt, 201.464.0639
Brix City Brewing, Little Ferry. A sweet 16 can varieties and 16 beers on tap are offered most of the time at this taphouse, which is run by two high school friends with a passion for making (and drinking) beer. Folks love Brix City’s fruity selections like this week’s “Fruit Trip”, as well as their growler/crowler fills-to-go.
*4 Alsan Way, Little Ferry, 201.440.0865
Hackensack Brewing, Hackensack. Whether you want a socially distanced taproom experience, an outdoor biergarten or curbside pickup, Hackensack Brewing can accommodate you. Also on the schedule here are fun trivia nights, where $10 gets you a flight of four beers to sample while playing the game.
