Get Moving! 5 Bergen 5Ks To Join In March

5K season—and better weather—is upon us, so now’s the perfect time to sign up for one or more of these local runs, many of which are for charity.

Whether you walk, run or jog (or watch from the sidelines), everyone can enjoy spring 5K season in Bergen County. The best time to get moving is March 6, National Finisher’s Medal Day, but every day is a good day to get active! There are so many reasons to run: to get in shape, to enjoy the outdoors, to hang out with friends or to receive a medal at the end of the course.

Here are a few upcoming walks/runs in Bergen County to check out this month, many of which have charitable causes. Editor’s note: Click on each link to find out the distance of each course (most are in the 5K range), sign-up details and more:

  • The Single Squatch in Mahwah to support the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, on Saturday, March 12, at 10 a.m. Price: $40–$60, depending on the distance you choose.
  • The Shamrock Shuffle in Ridgewood in honor of Will Sullivan, who has Angelman Syndrome, a rare disorder on the Autism spectrum, on Saturday, March 12, at 1–3 p.m. Price: $35.
  • The Bergen Catholic LAX 5K at Bergen Catholic in Oradell on Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m., a partnership with 15forlife.org to bring awareness to mental health issues on and off the field. Price: $20.
  • The Our Journey 5K for Endometriosis Awareness in Saddle Brook on Saturday, March 26, time TBD, to educate and raise money for endometriosis, a painful gynecologic condition that can effect fertility. Price: $25 for the 5K run or the endo walk.
  • The Lost Brook Trail Race in Tenafly on Sunday, March 27 at 9 a.m., to navigate hiking trails and explore the wetlands and forest nestled within the Tenafly Nature Center. Price: $35 for the 5-mile course, $40 for the 10-mile course.
