Why be like everyone else and order a pizza pie on Pi Day, Monday, 3.14? Instead (or in addition, because #yolo), try a sweet pie for dessert, of which we have plenty of options here in Bergen County.

Here are eight of our favorite pie joints in Bergen, where you’ll find desserts with the perfect ratio of buttery crust to tasty filling.

Balthazar Bakery. This French-inspired haven for baked goods has “galettes” instead of pies, which are baked in a sloped dish and don’t fluff up as high as pies do. Still, their apple, pear or chocolate-tangerine galettes are the same idea—and are just as scrumptious.

Erie’s Coffee Shop and Bakery. What’s your cuppa joe from Erie’s missing? A warm slice of their salted caramel apple pie, which is an elevated version of the tried-and-true apple. They also have a larger pie assortment toward the holiday season.
*10 Franklin Pl., Rutherford, 201.460.0073

Joe’s Craft Pies. Whatever flavor pie you’re craving, it’s almost a guarantee that Joe’s has it. The menu runs the gamut from fruity pies (apple, blueberry, cranberry) to more savory options (ham and cheese, spinach, three cheese broccoli). P.S.: Don’t skimp on their pot pies either (pulled pork, beef chili, traditional chicken).
*257 Westwood Ave., Westwood, 201.497.5138

McCrum’s Bakery. If you haven’t yet tasted McCrum’s signature Apple Crumb Pie, you’re truly missing out. The apples are sourced from DePiero’s Farm Stand in Montvale, and the pie itself is large enough to be a centerpiece on your table. A close second is their sweet chocolate cream pie.
*378 Market St., Elmwood Park, 201.797.2470

Miller’s Bakery. Custom cakes are a favorite here, but since 1947, customers also flock to Miller’s for their wide array of pies and strudels. Try pecan, apple, apple crumb, lemon merenque or coconut custard.
*716 Anderson Ave., Cliffside Park, 201.943.0400; 5 Washington St., Tenafly, 201.871.4449

Mr. Tod’s Pie Factory. Mr. Tod closed his Englewood storefront to focus on expanding the bakery online (and thus reaching more customers), but you can still order any of his specialty Southern-style pies and get them delivered right to your door. Some of his fan favorites include sweet potato, chocolate pecan and buttermilk coconut—order them full-size or a few 4-inch minis if you just can’t decide.

Pies & Quiches. Made from scratch and baked daily, these homemade goodies are available in two sizes (6- or 9-inch) and tons of flavors, from cherry crumb to chocolate silk to key lime. They’re also known for their quiches that appeal to both meat-lovers (sausage onion cheddar) and vegetarians (spinach onion feta).
*133 Kinderkamack Rd., Park Ridge, 201.746.6251

Zadies Bake Shop. Sure, their challah is said to be the best in the tri-state area, but Zadies pies don’t disappoint either. Try blueberry, cherry, apple or the “combo” pie with all three, or the “crumb pie” version of each, which are topped with sprinkled sugar. Bonus: Everything in-store is kosher and nut-free.
