It’s August, and so begin the dog days of summer. No one’s really looking forward to more muggy, steamy days, but at least we have splash parks, town pools, indoor playgrounds and other ways to beat the heat. You know what we also have that’ll get us through the dog days? Dogs!

Celebrate National Dog Month by pampering your pooch, or, better yet, giving a home to a pup that deserves one. In Bergen County, there are dozens of shelter and rescue animals available for adoption with a simple application and fee (in some cases, fees can be waived). Check out places like Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro, Cat Crew Rescue in Oradell and Humane Society of Bergen County in Lyndhurst to find your next furry family member. For example, meet Oso:

Oso is a 9-year-old terrier mix available for adoption at Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge Inc. (RBARI) in Oakland. This boy weighs about 50 pounds and is very sociable with people and other animals—though he prefers calmer females in his size range. According to his description from RBARI, “He a gentle, lovable soul and charms everyone who meets him.” Contact RBARI to meet Oso and other animals up for adoption today!
