Bake-off at the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern
A delicious day at the Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary Bake-off at the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern.
For lunch on Saturday, I ate 23 desserts. I was working hard helping to judge the Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary Bake-off at the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern. Members of the Fire Department Auxiliaries of Ho-Ho-Kus, Wyckoff, Waldwick and Mahwah participated in the event. My fellow judges included Kate Morgan Jackson, writer of the blog framedcooks.com, Alex Berlingeri, who is a wine importer and restaurant consultant, Mahwah Council President John Roth, Wyckoff Mayor Kevin Rooney, Ho-Ho-Kus Mayor Tom Randall and Patrick Muller, Pastry Chef of the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern.
Leann Surz of the HHK Ladies Auxiliary won first place prize for the cake division and overall highest individual entry score for her Vanilla Cheesecake, and I can confirm that it was amazing. It was rich, yet somehow light and fluffy at the same time, with a hint of sour cream discernable. Her prize was $250 cash and a $100 gift certificate to the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern.
Lois Ciampo of the Wyckoff Ladies Auxiliary was a two-time winner. Her Chocolate Chip Tea Cookies won first place in the “other” division and her Bavarian Apple Torte won second place in the cake division, earning her a combined prize of $350. They were both among my favorites, so I was glad to see Ciampo take the cake, so to speak.
