Local musicians and garage bands dream of making it big, but some want to use their talents to spread a positive message. 2468, a band comprised of the Ermita brothers of New Milford (Junian, 14, Ulysses, 12, Santino, 10, and Vince, 8), has been making music from their basement since 2017 and performing original and cover songs at gigs throughout Bergen County. Their latest composition is gaining fans not only for the music, but also for its meaning. In response to events unfolding in Ukraine, the band posted this video of “The Dream,” a song they originally wrote as a tribute to George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement. It has since turned into a piece about world peace. “We wrote this song in efforts to inspire the younger generations,” says Ulysses Ermita. “The overall message of the song can be applicable to many things happening in the world. We hope that this song has made a difference, big or small, in the climb to a peaceful world.” And if young Vince’s vocals sound familiar, you might’ve heard him on Broadway: He plays young Simba at select performances of The Lion King.
