Carrying On Traditions
The Cassandra family celebrates a long-standing custom as they celebrate the upcoming year.

Some watch the ball drop in Times Square, while others eat 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight. In the Cassandra’s Edgewater home, family members partake in the Greek tradition of throwing pomegranates to the ground. Mother Dayna posted this photo of her son, Xane, looking at the aftermath after they broke this year’s fruit. It’s believed that the more the pomegranate opens, the more abundance the home will have in the coming year. Dayna captioned the photo: “Here’s to a new year! Grateful for the opportunities in 2024!” For more of what’s going on around Bergen County, follow us on Instagram @bergenmagnj.
