Skip those steep Broadway prices and stay local the next time you’re in the mood for something musical. You never know what will be playing next at the handful of theaters throughout Bergen County, but here are some of this season’s most anticipated shows:

Bergen County Players

Spamalot and Harvey will be performed on this theater’s main stage; both are guaranteed to send you into fits of sidesplitting laughter. Monty Python’s classic parody of the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table will play from Sept. 16–Oct. 14. Then there’s the story of a man who spends his free time with his best friend, Harvey—a 6-foot rabbit!—from Oct. 28–Nov. 18.

Old Library Theatre

The Fair Lawn Recreation Department’s theater company will be performing both Children of Eden and Catch Me If You Can this fall, to satisfy your love of drama and comedy. The first show presents Old Testament tales with Adam, Eve and Noah as main characters; it runs from Sept. 15–24 with specific dates on the theatre’s website.

Catch Me features the same story as the Leonardo DiCaprio movie, but this version peppers in some fun musical and dance numbers. Keep up with Frank Abignale Jr. in this fast-paced musical, Oct. 20–29.

The Company Theatre

Neil Simon’s beloved California Suite, set to run Sept. 8–17, will have you laughing and cringing with its delightfully awkward moments. The work is divided into four “playlets,” each focusing on different guests in a hotel suite in Los Angeles.
