Celebrate Labor Day Weekend At These 9 Events
Bid adieu to summer with festivals, shows and great music all around Bergen County.

Though it’ll be a few weeks yet before the weather takes a turn for the cooler (and the first official day of fall isn’t until Sept. 22), Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end of summer. And, whether you’re going away or staying close to home, everyone wants to send off the season right.
After you finish browsing Labor Day sales, there’s a treasure trove of local events you can enjoy. Make sure you click the links for specific ticket information.
Aug. 30
- Running until Sept. 2, the annual Saint Joseph Feast in Lodi is a tradition that spans 109 years. Stop by for food, music, games, community and much more. A solemn Mass and procession for the saint will be held on Labor Day. Times vary; see their website for more.
- Join the Hackensack Performing Arts Center in Hackensack for their End of Summer Concert featuring funk/soul band Fillet of Soul. Enjoy hits from artists such as Earth Wind and Fire, Sly and the Family Stone, Al Green and many others. The music starts at 7 p.m.
Aug. 31
- Stop by the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford for The Breeders Crown Charity Challenge Family Fun Day. This event includes pony rides, face painting and other family-friendly activities. The fun starts at 10 a.m.
- Join the Borough of Closter for its all-day Labor Day celebration in Memorial Park. Events include a cornhole tournament, adult egg toss, live music and more. And remember to return on Sept. 1 for the Jim O’Halloran Kids Fun Run and 43rd Annual Dom Mircovich 5K Run/Walk.
- At 4 p.m., Arts in Oakland Committee and Oakland Recreation hosts a free concert at the Arts Pavilion in Great Oak Park. Classic rock band Till We Can’t will serve up crowd-pleasing hits. Bring your own chair or blanket!
- At Closter’s Lions Bandshell in Memorial Park, you can hear the sounds of the Waldwick Band. The band will play classic big band tunes, concert band staples, selections from Broadway shows and film scores and more. The music starts at 7 p.m.
- Want to laugh? At the Williams Center for the Arts in Rutherford, the All-Star Comedy Lineup: The Next Big Thing hits the stage. Come see four hot, up-and-coming comics who are ready to show off and sure to impress. The show starts at 8:30 p.m.
Sept. 1
- At Ridgefield Park’s Overpeck Park, the Filipino American Festival returns for another year. This celebration of community and heritage includes food, vendors, a fashion show and entertainers—and that’s just the start. The fun begins at noon.
- Send off one season with a taste of the next one with apple cider making at the Tenafly Nature Center. Learn about the history of apple cultivation and help make some delicious cider—you’re encouraged to bring some apples of your own! Times are available at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
