Celebrate Women’s History Month Around Bergen County
Whether through speakers, music or good eats, Bergen always honors women in style.

Today is International Women’s Day, which aims to celebrate the accomplishments of women throughout the world and honor the ongoing fight for gender equality. Though some version of the event has existed since 1909, it was officially adopted by the United Nations in 1977. This year’s theme is “Inspire Inclusion,” and, in that spirit, there are many places around Bergen where you can get involved.
From education panels and delicious nibbles to artisan spotlights and scholar honors, stop by these events to see what Women’s History Month has to offer in Bergen:
March 8: Bergen Community College will host the LeadHERship Conference and Luncheon from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program will feature an array of speakers to commemorate the work of women at BCC and within the community at large. Lunch will be provided. See their website for more details.
March 9: Head over to the Shops at Riverside in Hackensack for an International Women’s Day Luncheon, hosted by Plated by D, a woman-owned business. Enjoy snacks, drinks and honor the accomplishments of women everywhere. The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. See their website and Eventbrite for more information.
March 9: Over at the Mahwah Public Library, join Janet Mandel for a talk entitled Georgia O’Keeffe: Speaking with Color and Shapes. Learn why O’Keeffe is indelible part of the mythology and iconography of the American art landscape, and a feminist icon in her own right. Registration is required.
March 9: Kensemble, a classical ensemble comprising of six women, will hold their Woman’s History Day Concert at Englewood Library. Their repertoire includes classical, film, Korean traditional and K-pop music. The show starts at 7 p.m. Registration is required; see their website for details.
March 12: Ramapo College’s Women’s Center holds its Hidden Gems Pop Up Shops event from noon to 4 p.m. in the school’s Trustees Pavilion. Stop by this showcase of 15 woman- and LGBTQ-owned businesses in the area.
March 15: Join the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood at 11:30 a.m. for their Spring Luncheon Celebrating Women’s History Month. The event will feature New Jersey’s First Lady Tammy Murphy and will honor Broadway producer and 15-time Tony Award winner Wendy Federman. Nina Pineda of WABC’s Eyewitness News will serve as the emcee. See their website for ticket information.
March 21: At the end of the month, Bergen County holds its Women’s History Month Celebration in Hackensack. The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m., and will include speakers, awards and the announcement of the Women’s History Month sticker contest winners. All are welcome, but registration is encouraged.
