Chalk it Up
Positive messages and fun art greet the students of Brookside Elementary School in Westwood.

What’s better than arriving somewhere on a red carpet? Being greeted on a path filled with positivity, that’s what! The Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) at Westwood’s Brookside Elementary School welcomed every student with chalk drawings and affirmations along the sidewalk leading to the school. “Just start,” “Yes, you can” and “Your future is so bright” were all messages written in colorful bubble letters, alongside pictures of hearts, stars and suns. One of the PTO’s co-presidents, Danielle Skiba, says, “This is something we’ve been doing for a few years now! Our ‘beautification team,’ a group of amazing moms, organizes it. The kids loved it, and the parents say it makes the school more welcoming.” We agree!
