Compete in BERGEN’s Scavenger Hunt!

Grab your crew, travel the county and snap pictures this holiday weekend.
2 Scavenger Hunt

Our home is wonderful, because there’s always something to do. We never run out of events to check out, new restaurants to try, new places to explore and new people to meet. But, sometimes, part of the fun is making your own fun—and, this holiday weekend, we decided to get in on the action!

We at BERGEN magazine have put together a special local photo scavenger hunt for our readers (just in time for National Scavenger Hunt Day, May 24), and we’re so excited to share it here:

Below, you’ll find 10 instructions that will send you all over our county to grab photos of local places and events. To participate, simply complete five of the steps. At the end of the weekend, post your scavenger hunt pictures on Instagram and tag us @bergenmagnj—and you and your photos could be featured in an upcoming newsletter and in the print edition as well.

Good luck, and happy hunting!

  • Take a picture of an issue of BERGEN magazine next to a pool.
We at BERGEN know our preferred poolside reading, though we admit we’re biased. Take a picture of one of our issues next to a public or private pool.
  • Take a picture of three different downtowns around Bergen County. (Bonus points if you’re in the picture!)
There are no bad choices here, whether you opt for the hustle and bustle of Ridgewood or Englewood or the slower pace of Ramsey or Westwood.
  • Take a picture of a Bergen County street sign that starts with a Q, a U or a Z.
You may need to do some digging for this one, but here’s our hint: Lots of streets are named after people.
  • Take a picture in a local park.
Anything from close-by playgrounds and pocket parks to a hike at Palisades Interstate Park in Alpine will tick this off the list.
  • Take a picture at a kid-friendly event.
Many of us have full houses and lots of time to fill over long weekends (that’s probably why you’re doing this hunt). Hit two birds with one stone and snap a pic when you drop by events such as a glow-in-the-dark paint party at The Hub studios in Hackensack (May 23), the Oakland Outdoor Market at in the Oakland Public Library’s parking lot (May 23), a guided walk along the Teaneck Creek Conservatory’s Fairy Trail (May 23 and 24) or the petting zoo at Abma’s Farm in Wyckoff or Demarest Farm in Hillsdale (both open daily). For a more indoor activity, stop by the Barrymore Film Center in Fort Lee for a special screening of Finding Nemo (May 23 and 24).
  • Take a picture at a mall or shopping center.
We have no shortage of these to choose from here in Bergen. Head over to American Dream in East Rutherford, Westfield Garden State Plaza or Bergen Town Center in Paramus, the Shops at Riverside in Hackensack and many others.
  • Take a picture in front of a town hall or municipal building.
Make sure you take a moment to enjoy the view and be on the lookout for local Historic Site markers—many of these buildings have them, though you might not have noticed.
  • Take a picture with the owner of a Bergen County business.
From small boutiques to real estate offices, we love to give our local business owners their kudos. Make sure you tag them in your photo post!
  • Take a picture at a tennis court, pickleball court, basketball court or soccer field.
You’ll find these at private facilities such as Montclair Pickleball in Fair Lawn, but also at many of our public parks (like at Wood Dale County Park in Woodcliff Lake).
  • Take a family photo outside your favorite Bergen County restaurant.
Take the whole crew out for a great meal and grab a quick picture to save the memory—and round out this list.

If you participate, make sure to tag us @bergenmagnj in your pictures for a chance to be featured!
