There’s nothing like a dip in the water, especially when summer is about to hit. To celebrate the end of a long and successful competition season, members of the Hackensack High School rowing team jumped into the lake at Overpeck County Park in Leonia during their last day of practice. Keira Gotrell, who coached the team with her mother Myrna, posted this video of the kids running down the ramp and leaping into the water. Though the kids had fun, it was a bittersweet moment—budget cuts forced the school district to disband the rowing program. In addition, coach Myrna continues to fight stage 4 breast cancer. “For the last day of practice, she let the kids jump in the lake since it’ll be the last time many of them get the opportunity to do so,” says Aylyn Havershein, spokesperson for Hackensack Crew. We wish the kids and coaches good luck—and we’re all rooting for you, Myrna.
