Apple picking, pumpkin picking, delicious bites—enjoy the perfect seasonal afternoon at these local farms.

We’re officially halfway through October, and there’s still so much seasonal fun and fall traditions to do. Here’s a popular one—have you been done a farm trip yet?
Whether you’re looking for the perfect pumpkin, a day of apple picking, iconic fall treats like cider donuts or the perfect photo op, these local farms can deliver the perfect day.
Want to stay in Bergen? Check out these spots.
- Though apple picking season at Hillsdale’s Demarest Farms has ended, you can still stop by here from 8 a.m. on to pick your own pumpkin and grab seasonal baked goods from the farm shop.
- Pick up farm-fresh produce and pumpkins at Abma’s Farm in Wyckoff. You can also jump on a fun hayride and say hello to the friendly animals at the farm’s petting zoo.
- At Mahwah’s Secor Farms, you’ll find a field of pumpkins ready for picking, a corn maze, hayrides and props for photos. Then swing by the farm store for beautiful mums, cornstalks and fresh local produce.
- Check out Stokes Farm in Old Tappan for pumpkins and produce (and watch their website for weekend hayride tickets!). You can also pick up beautifully dried flowers for your centerpieces here.
Willing to drive a bit further? These farms are a fun road trip away.
- In nearby Pomona, New York, the Orchards of Concklin are open for pick-your-own apples on the weekends, starting at 11 a.m. Empire, Cortland and Macoun are just three of the types ripe in mid-to-late October. It will take about a half hour to drive there.
- A bit further upstate in Warwick (the drive takes about an hour), Pennings Farm is also open for apple picking now through the start of November. Our pro tip: hang around after you’re done at the on-site cidery and enjoy a drink and some brick oven pizza.
- Also in Warwick is the Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery, where you’ll find a full day of pick-your-own in addition to a restaurant, market and live music every weekend.
- Stay in-state and head to Chester in Morris County (only about 40 minutes away) for Alstede Farms, which offers more than 50 apple varieties. You can also wander the seasonal corn maze.
- In Randolph, also about a 40-minute drive, you’ll find Sun High Orchards and apple picking that’s open Tuesday through Sunday.
