Get In The Game
All over Bergen, you can take a swing, a shot, a spike or a kick with these recreational sports leagues.

We just spent weeks cheering on Olympic athletes, baseball season is officially underway and the basketball and hockey playoffs are just around the corner—not to mention the FIFA World Cup inching closer. In other words, there’s no shortage of sports to watch right now—or to get out there and play yourself.
If you’re itching to get outside and join the fun as the weather warms, you can check out adult drop-in sports and recreational leagues all over Bergen County. Whether you’re looking to rekindle an old passion, try something new, take part in some social exercise or enjoy the competitive spirit, you’ll find it right here (and you can do it safely!). Baseball. Play at the Plate New Jersey, an over-35 baseball league that plays in New Milford, Hillsdale, Montvale, Lyndhurst and more, kicks off the second weekend in April. Many teams are looking to fill out their rosters, so dust off your cleats and register as a “free agent” today.
Basketball. At Life Time gym in Montvale, you can take part in Bergen County Open League Basketball. This league is open to anyone 18 years or older of any skill level. For a more casual experience, try River Edge Recreation’s Adult Drop In program on Tuesday nights at River Dell Middle School for pickup games. Meadowlands YMCA in East Rutherford also offers open play most weekdays.
Hockey. Hackensack’s Ice House hosts its Spring/Summer league starting on April 6. Five different divisions match players by level of skill, whether you’re looking for a super-competitive edge or a chance to hone some new skills.
Pickleball. You have a few options in Bergen for this game. Bergen County Pickleball Club in Tenafly offers open play; Montclair Pickleball in Fair Lawn has weekly tournaments for all levels; and Bergen Pickleball Zone in Ramsey has open play for all levels and court rental options.
Soccer. In Elmwood Park, Bergen County Pick-Up Soccer hosts indoor games on Thursday night and outdoor games on Saturday morning. Anyone of any skill level is welcome, so long as they are over 18.
Softball. You can still sign up to take part in Fort Lee’s Co-Ed Softball League, which is open to anyone 21 and older. Beginners are welcome, and your family is encouraged to hang around and watch the games.
Volleyball. Spike the ball in Lodi with Mixed Gender Indoor Volleyball. This league is intended for people at the intermediate level who like a bit more competition—the team that wins the playoffs gets a cash prize.
