Congratulations to Pascack Valley High School music teacher Argine Safari, who this past fall was named the 2016–17 New Jersey Teacher of the Year. Safari, a Fort Lee resident, has been teaching music theory and leading concerts at the Hillsdale school for the past 11 years.

The Pascack Valley choir has earned numerous awards while under her direction, traveling to competitions and concerts from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles to Dublin, Ireland.

As this year’s winner, Safari will receive a six-month paid leave to serve as a liaison between the teaching community and New Jersey Department of Education. Additional prizes include a new Ford Fusion, a new computer and a trip to the White House to meet the president.
