Holy Mac! 8 Mac & Cheese Dishes To Try
The creamy classics and loaded twists at these Bergen eateries will please pasta lovers of all ages.

Who doesn’t have nostalgic memories of stirring up a pot of boxed mac and cheese as a kid? It’s no wonder this dish has stayed a comfort food favorite—and with National Mac and Cheese Day coming up on July 14, there’s no better excuse to indulge.
Of course, your tastes have evolved since the Kraft days. Luckily, so has mac and cheese. Whether you’re craving something upscale, wildly indulgent or creatively reimagined, these Bergen County spots are serving up grown-up versions (kids will love them too) of the cheesy classic you know and love.
The 130 Club. For a high-end twist on this dish, try the truffle mac and cheese at this Tenafly spot. (If you’re feeling truly decadent, you can eat it with a 1.5 lb. Maine lobster.)

Biddy O’Malley’s. You’ll find all your pub fare favorites here with fun twists, including a mouthwatering chorizo mac and cheese option.
*191 Paris Ave., Northvale, 201.564.7893
Brothers Smokehouse. For a fun alternative, try the fried mac and cheese balls at this barbecue favorite. Each ball is stuffed with brisket and glazed with a house barbecue sauce.
*900 Rte. 17, Suite 2, Ramsey, 551.264.9073
Buffalo’s. This spot is proud of its five-cheese recipe, proclaiming the dish “famous” on its menu—and the taste speaks for itself.
*261 Hackensack St., Wood-Ridge, 201.728.4717
The Capital Grille. At the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, this upscale chain offers a seriously good lobster mac.

Fluffies Hot Chicken. Pick up mac and cheese Nashville style (topped with fried chicken and drizzled in the restaurant’s signature sauce) at this Hackensack establishment. Pro tip: Try “half mac, half fries” to sample some of Fluffies’ golden French fries as well.
*252 S. Summit Ave., Hackensack, 551.291.1116
Runway Diner. Within the giant diner menu are the “Mach1 & Cheese” options, which include classic, loaded (with bacon and pickled jalapeños) and crab cake.
*380 Rte. 46, South Hackensack, 201.843.7601
Sweet T’s Southern Eatery. It’s no surprise that a place specializing in soul food makes a mean mac and cheese. Sweet T’s pulled chicken and pulled pork options are something special, but we recommend the shrimp version.
