Washington Spring Garden

Part of Van Saun Park, this space is a relaxing escape with walking paths alongside the blooming rhododendrons and benches to simply sit and take in the view. The park also has a number of cherry blossom trees, which typically bloom in mid-April.

Thielke Arboretum

The arboretum has a gorgeous antique gazebo surrounded by four small gardens and azalea patches, which bloom from April to June. There are a number of Kousa dogwood trees, which will be, at this time, beginning to bloom—its fruit and white-pink flowers attract butterflies.

Davis Johnson Park & Gardens

The gardens’ newly redesigned rose garden has become a popular spot for spring photo shoots and weddings alike. This month, large rhododendron bushes will be in bloom all throughout the park, as well as bundles of hyacinths in various colors. Keep an eye out for the light pink dogwood flowers, which will have just begun to bloom on their trees.

James A. McFaul Environmental Center

The center has a number of grassy slopes where over 75,000 daffodil plants and flowering trees bloom throughout the month of April. With the arrival of warm spring sun, the garden’s hostas will show new growth, and its roses bloom throughout the season.

New Jersey Botanical Garden

The Ringwoodbased garden is a short journey from the county, and well worth the drive. There are free guided tours available every Sunday afternoon, where visitors can see perennials, magnolia, azaleas, water lilies, rhododendrons and lilacs while they bloom in April. Guests are welcome to wander the botanical gardens and its many winding paths.
