An African safari might not be in your budget this year, but you can still tour an animal kingdom at the Bergen County Zoo in Paramus. Beginning this month, all exhibits will be open and animals will be out and about for the summer, including all of the birds, tortoises and gators that hide during the cold winter months.

So you won't find any lions, tigers and bears here, but oh my, there are plenty of other mammals, raptors and reptiles to entertain and educate visitors of all ages. The zoo also holds special programs throughout the year. From 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m. on May 6, visitors can enjoy Sheep Shearing Day. There will be activities for children, shearing demonstrations every 45 minutes and other events. The best part? The program is free with your paid admission to the zoo ($4 for Bergen residents).
