Laugh Out Loud At These 5 Bergen Comedy Shows
Feeling those winter blues? Laughter is the best medicine.

It’s cold and dark. News is stressful. All manner of seasonal bugs and flus are going around. There are plenty of reasons you might feel down in the middle of January.
Luckily, there are also plenty of solutions for that problem. A doctor’s visit can quell your health worries (including the mental ones), and having people around to support you can go a long way. And, if you want to lighten your mood, how about some laughter? Bergen County hosts a slew of comedy shows in the coming days that are all but guaranteed to make you giggle, crack a smile and full-on belly laugh. So grab your crew and check out the following showcases:
Jan. 17
• The Bolero Snort Brewery in Carlstadt hosts the Next Stop Comedy Show for an evening of laughs and beer. This monthly event ensures that you always see something you’ve never seen before—the lineup is all new every time. The show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are $25.
• Comedian Samuel J. Comroe stops by Rutherford’s Bananas Comedy Club for three performances over two nights (he returns for two shows on Jan. 18!). This pro performs at over 100 venues a year, placed fourth on season 13 of America’s Got Talent on NBC and cracks up audiences with his observational comedy—much of it centered around living with Tourette syndrome. Jan. 18
• The popular Bragging Rights Sketch Comedy returns to the Hackensack Performing Arts Center in Hackensack. This show pits teams of talented improv actors against each other and allows you, the audience, to decide who takes home the prize. The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 when purchased before the show, and $20 at the door.
Jan. 19
• Banana’s Comedy Club in Rutherford offers another great show with funnyman Anthony Robustiano, who is known for his high-energy and dynamic sets and his infectious personality. Two shows are available, one at 7:30 p.m. and the other at 9 p.m. See the club’s website for ticket information.
Jan. 21
• If you want to see something truly new and exciting, you can try the Williams Center in Rutherford’s weekly open mic, where amateur comedians often practice their skills and test out new material. The show begins at 8 p.m., and there is a $5 entrance fee.
