Long May It Wave
A Fort Lee doctor says seeing Old Glory fly at the George Washington Bridge is still an “awesome sight.”
The largest free-flying American flag in the world is a familiar sight to most Bergenites, yet it always grips at the heart whenever we see it. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey hangs the massive flag from the Fort Lee tower of the George Washington Bridge for major patriotic holidays like Memorial Day, Independence Day and, most recently, Labor Day. Paul Kang, a doctor based in Fort Lee, post this video on Instagram of him approaching Old Glory on Monday. “It’s an awesome sight to see, the way it flows in the wind on a beautiful day,” Kang says. “It represents the freedom of our country. I particularly find it most meaningful on MLK Day.” The flag will fly from the GWB on Sept. 11 as well as Veterans Day.
