Mother and Daughter Challenge: Janice’s Online Journal Week 3

Our mother/daughter team recounts their third week of the makeover process

Today I met with Beth, my Personal Trainer at The Atlantis Sports Club & Spa. Upon arriving, I thought she was going to literally “knock the socks off me” with crunches, leg lifts, lifting weights and squats and thought that they would have to “carry” me out of the gym. It really IS very difficult doing any kind of exercise after not having done any in such a very long time. But much to my surprise, she took it easy on me the first day. She was very good at knowing how to handle an overweight older person with absolutely no muscle tone.

We started out by stretching and doing some exercises—but not overdoing it. She was able to determine what and how much I needed to do on the first day. We discussed what I should do at home and how easy it would be to get started a little at a time. I must say that after 65 years on this planet—the last 10 of which I have not exercised or dieted—it’s very difficult to change your ways. Hopefully, meeting with the trainer today and following her routine will slowly change all that.

During the rest of the week, I walked with my grandson and lifted some weights and continued to stretch. I hope to be able to get back to the gym and take some classes with my daughter as often as I can. They offer classes every night and there is a variety for those of us who don’t want to stick to just one type of class. I hope to get to the Step class as well as Zumba, which I heard is a lot of fun!
