Need a Laugh? 3 Comedy Clubs to Tickle Your Funny Bone
You don’t need to cross the GWB for a night of laughs. The clubs on this side of the river are pretty stand-up too.
Live concerts, plays, and, come September, even Broadway is back after an extended, COVID-related hiatus. And so are the days of live comedy, where you’d cram into a tiny club to watch a funny guy or gal take the stage a few feet away from you, making fun of audience members via R-rated jokes.
Our area is home to quite a few well-known comedy clubs that are perfect for a night out with your significant other or a group of friends. Here are three to check out. Pro tip: Just click on each club’s website to see their full events calendar, their COVID safety guidelines and to buy tickets.
Bananas Comedy Club, Rutherford & Hasbrouck Heights. Famous funny dudes such as Jim Breuer and Chris Rock have taken the stage at Bananas, which brings “stadium-sized talent to an intimate theater.” The opening act, feature and headliner at these weekend-only shows will be no more than 60 feet away from each and every audience member, and guests can enjoy food, drinks and desserts while LOLing all night. Upcoming headliners include Dave Landau from Last Comic Standing and Michael Colyar from Blackish.

Rhino Comedy, Suffern, N.Y. Open mic Thursdays ($5 each) and stand-up Friday and Saturday nights ($20) are the big draw to this venue and art gallery, which also hosts writing workshops and improv classes. Comedians aren’t typically announced ahead of time, but each show promises a hilarious line-up of top talent.

West Nyack Levity Live, West Nyack, N.Y. Nestled in between the retail shops and restaurants at The Palisades Center in Rockland County is this 18+ comedy club which features both well-known comedians and up-and-comers. SNL head writer Colin Jost, T.J. Miller, Chris Kattan and more are on the schedule for the next few months.
