Ready to trade screen time for green time? There’s something about this time of year that practically begs for a trip to the garden—whether you’re planting your first flowers or plotting a full backyard refresh. A little sunshine, a few new plants, and suddenly everything feels brighter (and maybe even a bit more delicious, if herbs are involved).

Here in Bergen County, we’re lucky to have incredible local nurseries filled with expert advice and beautiful plants, plus stunning public gardens that offer inspiration and are worth a wander. Many of the following were honored in last year’s Readers’ Choice contest (vote for your favorite garden center in the 2026 poll), and each are perfect to visit on National Gardening Day, April 14—or any day of the season!
