Put Halloween Candy To Good Use
Not sure what to do with your holiday haul (or leftovers)? These Bergen-based organizations can help.

The kids have perfected their costumes, the jack-o-lanterns have been carved, and we’ve all stocked our candy bowls to prepare for a steady stream of trick-or-treaters. There’s lots of fun to be had on the spookiest night of the year in Bergen, whether you’re escorting some young ones on their adventures, handing out goodies or hosting a party.
But come Sunday morning, you might find that you have that fabled “too much of a good thing.” Maybe the kids in your life went a little overboard, maybe you overestimated the number of costumed visitors who would stop by, but the point remains—you have far more candy than you want to keep around.
Though you can freeze the extra treats or use them as add-ins for a batch of cookies, if you’re eager to simply remove the temptations from your home, you have options beyond the dumpster. Check out these local organizations that will take it off your hands, from dentists who offer Halloween candy “buy back” options to candy drives to support the troops to food pantries that stock treats for those in need.
