The stars, the stripes, the marching bands and enough red, white and blue to make Uncle Sam blush—it’s Fourth of July weekend, and there will be parades galore Saturday morning. Whether you’re staking out your favorite curbside spot with a lawn chair at sunrise or chasing down candy tossed from floats (no judgment), there’s nothing quite like a hometown parade to kick off Independence Day. Add in fire trucks, community groups, classic cars and plenty of patriotic spirit, and you’ve got one of summer’s most beloved traditions.

If you’re looking to celebrate close to home, Bergen County has plenty of festive parades. From small-town celebrations to bigger community spectacles, here’s where you can wave your flag, cheer on your neighbors and get your holiday weekend off to a star-spangled start.

  • Bergen County Historical Society: walking tour at Historic New Bridge Landing, River Edge, 1 to 2 p.m.
  • Glen Rock: parade, 9:30 a.m., through downtown Glen Rock
  • Montvale, Park Ridge, Woodcliff Lake: parade 10 a.m. to noon, from Montvale Fire Department to Wortendyke Homestead
  • Ridgefield Park: reading of the Declaration of Independence, 7:30 a.m.; baby and youth parade, 9 a.m., Euclid Avenue and Mt. Vernon Street; civic parade 11:30 a.m., from Euclid Avenue to Brewster Park
  • Ridgewood: flag raising, 9 a.m.; parade, 10 a.m., through downtown Ridgewood
  • River Edge: parade, 11 a.m., from Bogert Road to Memorial Park
