Mayor Cyril Wekilsky has officially proclaimed that July is “Independent Business Month” in Boonton. This proclamation kicks off a month-long campaign to encourage residents to shop local and support the wonderful independent businesses in Boonton.

When an individual shops locally, they are supporting local businesses who have a vested interest in the community. A recent study by Economic Impact Analysis showed that for every $100 a consumer spent at a local store, $45 went back to the local economy as opposed to only $13 returning to the local economy when shopping at a chain store.

To mark the occasion of Independent Business Month, the Boonton Main Street has prepared a month long campaign of Shop Local posters encouraging folks to “Take the Indie Challenge“ and visit the Boonton Bazaar (which showcases local entrepreneurs who may not yet have a storefront), the Sidewalk Sale Days in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, and Third Thursday Main Street Late Night.

Boonton Main Street has also launched a new Facebook page, Boonton Main Street Inc., to help distribute information and will also be tweeting about local businesses throughout the month.
