6 Spots For Hanukkah Sweets
The Festival of Lights isn’t complete without jelly donuts, rugelach and other treats from these bakeries and shops.

’Tis not only the season for eggnog and gingerbread. We’re lucky that Bergen County is the place to get some of the best kosher jelly donuts, known in Hebrew as “sufganiyot,” for those eight nights of Hanukkah (which begins the evening of Dec. 14). Is there anything not to like about fried pieces of dough filled with jam and topped with powdered sugar?
Head to the following shops and get in line to enjoy these sweet treats—as well as rugelach and much more—for the Festival of Lights and beyond:
- Bread Boutique & Café, Tenafly. A popular coffee spot, this café also has great treats to fill your dessert table. Cookies, babka, rugelach and challah are perfect for any occasion.
*11 W. Railroad Ave., Tenafly, 732.289.8953 - Butterflake Bakery, Teaneck. Stop by this nut-free bakery for more than just jelly donuts, challah and cookies. “Fancy” donuts like strawberry shortcake, churro, s’mores and more will be available starting Dec. 11.
*448 Cedar Ln., Teaneck, 201.836.3516 - Market Basket, Franklin Lakes. Hanukkah desserts run the gamut here, from babka and rugelach to sponge cake and sugar cookies. The catering menu also includes full entrées and side dishes for those hosting dinner with family and friends.
*813 Franklin Lake Rd., Franklin Lakes, 201.891.2000 - Ma’adan Catering, Teaneck. You’ll find a great collection of sweet and baked goods at this kosher catering specialist. We’re talking Linzer tarts and scones from Fair Lawn-based kosher bakery Zadies Bake Shop, cookies from Strauss and more.
*446 Cedar Ln., Teaneck, 800.maadan1 - Patis Bakery, Lyndhurst and Teaneck. Pick up French-inspired pastries, mini cheesecakes and more at this bakery, which has two locations in the county.
*323 Ridge Rd., Lyndhurst, 201.438.4004; 439 Cedar Ln., Teaneck, 201.836.1700 - ShopRite, Englewood, Paramus and Rochelle Park. These chain grocery locations stock goodies from Zadies Bake Shop, including jelly donuts and challah.
