2 Chicks with Chocolate, a sweets boutique in South River

Chocolate lovers looking to satisfy their sweet tooth can now visit 2 Chicks with Chocolate (2chickswithchocolate.com, 888.896.2449), a 1,500-square-foot retail store that opened last spring on Main Street in South River. CEO Elyissia Ayn Wassung has transformed the confectionery business her mother, Barbara, founded in their Queens apartment into a thriving online and retail success.

“We decided to open the store and expand in South River because it’s one mile from our factory in town, where we make everything fresh,” said Wassung. Working with the Wassung “chicks” is master chocolatier Patrick Coston, who was a judge on Food Network Challenge. Coston combines Swiss chocolate, eclectic ingredients and artisanal techniques to create culinary masterpieces, including hand-painted bonbons in exotic flavors, wineinfused chocolate, “fire-and-ice” cocoa (a spiced hot chocolate mix) and an extensive sugar-free line. Nibblers can also buy candy by the piece or create their own box. A recent addition to the store allows the chicks to host parties, private tastings and classes. In the fall, aspiring chocolatiers can attend Cocoa 101 workshops to learn the basics.
