Family-owned since 1941, Karl's Appliance was started by Schwartz’s father, Karl, and grandfather, Barnett, as a tire shop in Belleville.

Electric warming drawers from Miele. Halogen light ovens from GE. These are just a couple of the high-tech items you’ll discover at Karl’s Appliance (karlsappliance.com), a leading appliance retailer that operates six showrooms in New Jersey, including locations in Fairfield (973.227.1777), Montclair (973.744.3447), Madison (973.377.5000) and Orange (973.395.5555).

“We offer a full-range of appliances at a variety of price points, from budget items to high-end designer products by brands such as Wolf and La Cornue,” says CEO Dan Schwartz.

Family-owned since 1941, the business was started by Schwartz’s father, Karl, and grandfather, Barnett, as a tire shop in Belleville. “Not long after they opened, my father and grandfather started offering appliances in addition to tires,” Schwartz explains. “Pretty soon the appliances were outselling the tires, so they decided to devote the business to appliances from then on.”

Today Schwartz is taking Karl’s into the future with state-of-the-art offerings that include many eco-conscious items. The business carries a variety of Energy Star-certified products, such as the new GeoSpring hybrid electric heat pump water heater from GE, which works by drawing in ambient heat from surrounding air and can save you up to $320 per year in energy costs, says Schwartz.

The latest Karl’s venture? Its brand-new store on Route 17 in Paramus, which includes a special section dedicated to apartment living, finally putting the search for that mini washer and dryer to rest.
