There’s Weekend Fun For Everyone

The year might’ve started off chilly, but our weekends are heating up with plenty of ways to get the whole crew out of the house and having fun. With everything from creative workshops and storytime favorites to outdoor adventures and community celebrations, there’s no shortage of reasons to shake off the winter blahs and make some memories together.
We’ve rounded up some of the best events happening in Bergen County. So bundle up, grab the kids or your crew and check out the happenings below—your next great weekend starts now!
Jan. 9
- For an evening of modern jazz, head to Brvsh Cul7ur3 (pronounced “Brush Culture”) in Teaneck at 8 p.m. for a performance by Mecadon McCune. The son of two musicians, Newark native McCune is known for his expressive drumming and on-stage leadership. Visit the jazz club’s website for more details and tickets.
- Funnyman Joe Gatto will perform at 9:15 p.m. at Bananas Comedy Club in Rutherford. Best known for his roles in television’s Impractical Jokers and The Misery Index, Gatto has also hosted live comedy shows and podcasts and authored two books. A show on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. also is available, but both Saturday performances are sold out. Get your tickets online.
Jan. 9–11
- Enjoy the final weekend of Let It Glow, the holiday lantern spectacular at the Bergen County Zoo in Paramus. More than 40 animal-themed lanterns are on display, and s’mores, a fire pit, a train ride and more are also available. The show opens at 4 p.m. each day, and tickets can be purchased online.
Jan. 10
- Are you an advanced pickleball player and want some new competition? Montclair Pickleball in Fair Lawn is hosting a Saturday Showdown round-robin tournament for players with a 4.0–4.5 rating starting at 2 p.m. Register online to enter.
- Cheer on the Fairleigh Dickinson University women’s basketball team as it takes on New Haven during a 2 p.m. contest at Bogota Savings Bank Arena in Hackensack. As of Wednesday, the Knights had an 11-4 record and sat atop the Northeast Conference standings. Root for the home team as it chases a spot in the postseason. Tickets are available online.
- Radio and podcast personalities Kangela Guerrero and Madison Hawkins team up for The Jersey Girl Diaries, a night of music, giveaways, networking and hot topics, at Hackensack Performing Arts Center. The live show starts at 7 p.m. and will feature the two Jersey hosts as they empower and encourage all the attendees. Tickets can be purchased online.
- Legendary music group The Sugarhill Gang returns to Englewood for an 8 p.m. concert at the Bergen Performing Arts Center. Part of The Eras of Hip Hop Tour, the show will feature the group’s timeless beats, iconic rhymes and party atmosphere that have captivated audiences for over four decades. Jan. 10–11
- Audiences of all ages can be entertained by Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, which is screening at the Barrymore Film Center in Fort Lee. The film, which is rated PG, tells the story of three children who, after their parents die, are delivered to the custody of cousin and stage actor Count Olaf. But what happens when Count Olaf secretly plots to steal the kids’ parents’ vast fortune? Showtime is at 10 a.m. on both days. Tickets are available online.
- Families can participate in an outdoor adventure at Tenafly Nature Center’s seasonal scavenger hunt. Geared for children ages 4 and up, the program encourages families to work together to solve riddles along the center’s nature trails. Sessions start at 1 p.m. on each day, and registration can be completed online.
- It’s opening weekend of Bergen County Players’ Seascape, a show written by Edward Albee and directed by Dottie Fischer. The story, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, follows a middle-aged couple as they interact with two sea creatures on a deserted stretch of beach. The Saturday show starts at 8 p.m., and the Sunday performance is at 2 p.m. Purchase tickets and find more performances at the Bergen County Players’ website.
Jan. 11
- You don’t have to be a nature lover to appreciate the NJ Eagle Festival, taking place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Meadowlands Environment Center in Lyndhurst’s DeKorte Park. The free program includes nature walks, information tables, demonstrations, kids’ activities and crafts, live music and more.
- Head to the Puffin Cultural Forum in Teaneck for a classical music concert with 15-year-old pianist Christina Sung. Winner of the Steinway & Sons Special Award at the 2024 Kaufman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition, Sung will perform works by a range of composers, including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin and Shostakovich.
