In 2017, New York Times restaurant critic Pete Wells famously sent shockwaves through the internet by claiming NYC’s best pizza was in New Jersey. We agree with him, personally, but with one stipulation: He was singing the praises of a pizza place in Jersey City. We think the best slice is right here in Bergen.

Ferazzoli’s Italian Kitchen, East Rutherford. A local favorite and often seen on best pizza lists, this eatery also has hot and cold sandwiches and wraps if you’re looking for lunch on the go.

Fort Lee Pizza, Fort Lee. It’s not hard to find someone going to bat for this neighborhood staple, which is family-owned and has some amazing sauce.

Grumpy’s Sourdough Pizza Co., Saddle Brook. The sourdough bite in the crust makes this spot stand out, and it shows up in many “Best of” polls and conversations.

Hasbrouck Heights Pizza, Hasbrouck Heights. Try the Grandma pie here, or one of their many specialty options such as the Brooklyn (with double-stuffed crust) or the Godfather (with a ricotta base).

Kinchley’s Tavern, Ramsey. A long-time Readers’ Choice Award winner, the super thin and crunchy crust of this tavern’s pies make it a must-try for pizza fans.

Lido, Hackensack. The cheery red of its storefront stands out on the street, and Lido is a mainstay in “Best Of” conversations. You can also pick up burgers, fries, soups and pasta options.

Pompilio’s Pizza & Restaurant, Westwood. You can try all the classics here, plus white pies (where the sauce is replaced with ricotta cheese), low-carb pies (on a thin wheat crust), gluten-free options and more.

S.Egidio, Ridgewood. Last year’s Readers’ Choice runner up boasts bubbling, perfectly charred crusts and small pies perfect for one or two people.

Sanducci’s Trattoria, River Edge. Also a Readers’ Choice nod, the Grandma pizza at this River Edge spot is a favorite, and they also offer a cauliflower crust options for those who prefer a gluten-free bite.

Vinnie’s Mootz, Lyndhurst. This local favorite is a past winner of the Jersey Pizza Joints Pizza Bowl thanks in part to its fresh mozzarella and burrata.
