Where To Give Blood In Bergen

Save a life and combat the shortage at local blood drives and banks.
2 Give Blood

There are endless ways we can help our community. You can donate food, donate your time, help your neighbors shovel their driveways—or roll up your sleeve.

One of the simplest ways you can save a live is to donate blood, and now is a vital time to do so. Not only is it National Blood Donor Month, but the New Jersey Blood Services recently declared a blood emergency after a steep post-holiday drop in donations. That puts lives at serious risk.

How important is it to give? Here are statistics from the American Red Cross:

  • Every two seconds, an American needs blood and/or platelets.
  • Approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day in the United States.
  • The average red-blood-cell transfusion is approximately three units; a single car-accident victim can require as many as 100.
  • An estimated 6.8 million people donate blood each year in the U.S. That’s only about 3 percent of the age-eligible population.
  • Red blood cells must be used within 42 days.
  • One blood donation can save up to three lives.

If you want to donate, keep an eye out for local blood drives, both in Bergen and nearby, including:

Can’t make it to those and still want to help? You can make an appointment at one of our local blood banks.
