What to Do This Weekend

It’s last call for these family-friendly and COVID-safe activities happening in Bergen County. A great excuse to get out of the house!
2 What Do Do

We’re just going to say it—weekends during a pandemic are not the same as regular ol’ weekends. When it’s this cold outside and indoor activities are limited for safety reasons, much of Saturday and Sunday is probably spent lounging around with your family at home or sledding at a nearby park. And there’s no shame in that!

But if you want to do something different this weekend—something that, you know, involves leaving your neighborhood—we don’t blame you. Here are a few social-distance- and winter-friendly ideas for the whole family to do around Bergen before they wrap up for the season:

Free admission at Bergen County Zoo. This weekend is the last that the Bergen County Zoo, located within Van Saun Park in Paramus, will be offering free admission. The silver lining, though, is that even though tickets will soon require entry fees, both the train and the carousel will open for the public sometime in March after remaining closed all winter. Every day, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
*216 E. Forest Ave., Paramus, 201.634.3100

A storytime snow walk at Thielkle Arboretum. Feb. 28 is also the last day to take the kids to the “Big Snow Walk” at this arboretum located in Glen Rock. The fun begins at the playground and continues throughout the grounds as you enjoy an outdoor story reading. Free admission, but donations are suggested.
*460 Doremus Ave., Glen Rock, 201.675.0947

An art exhibit at Café Mignon. For the month of February, this Leonia coffee spot known for paying tribute to local artists has on display the beautiful digital landscape collages created by resident Steven Swank, an artist, poet and puppeteer. Open until 10 p.m. on weekends.
*332 Broad Ave., Leonia, 201.292.1992

A yoga class at HeART in Motion Studio. Each Sunday in February, American Heart Month, this Ridgewood yoga studio has been hosting classes to promote fitness, wellness and a healthy lifestyle. The final installment takes place Sunday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. and is a fusion of yoga and Pilates. $20 per class.
*17 Chestnut St., Ridgewood, 201.857.4472

If you’d rather stay in (or do something else once the little ones are asleep), tune into Saturday Night Live, where Wyckoff native Nick Jonas, who’s one-third of the Jonas Brothers, will make his hosting and musical guest debut.
*Saturday, Feb. 27 at 11:30 p.m. on NBC.
