Boost your immune system, improve concentration, enhance  creativity and decrease stress by meditating, suggests Kellye Davis,  author of The Bliss Principle (theblissprinciple.com). To find  your inner bliss, here are Davis’ step-by-step instructions:

  • Set aside 5-10 minutes each day. Keep time with your cell phone or a non-ticking timer.
  • Choose a tranquil spot. Sit comfortably in a chair, with your spine and neck in a straight line.
  • Choose a peaceful word (such as “om” or “peace”) to allow your mind to be still. Slowly breathe in and out through your nose, saying your word to yourself on each inhale and exhale.
  • It’s normal to have thoughts come up.  “Use your word as a sword” to push them away, Davis suggests.
  • When done, sit in the stillness for a few minutes.
Meditation classes are offered at Blue Dragon School of Martial Arts in Bergenfield (201.385.3130, bluedragonkungfu.com).
