3 Bakeries Coming To Bergen Soon
Let them eat cake—and brownies, cookies and more—at these new sweet shops opening in the county this spring.

February and March were big food months, between Super Bowl Sunday and St. Patrick’s Day, but we’re calling it now—April is the month of desserts. Our calendars are filled with Easter, Passover and spring break festivities, plus there’s the better weather, so spring is high time to indulge in your favorite treats.
And that’s why we’re extra excited about the openings of these three new bakeries in Bergen County. Here’s where they’re located, what they offer and more:
Cake It, Lyndhurst (242 Stuyvesant Ave.). The custom cakes are the, well, bread and butter of this new cake shop in Lyndhurst, which is run by a formally trained pastry chef and his self-taught cake artist wife. However, they also have plenty of yummy desserts in display cases, including cakes, cookies, lemon squares and cupcakes, including festive treats for holidays. Cake It caters to all customers, including those that are gluten-free or vegan, as well as the four-legged kind. Treat your dog to one of their specialty “pup cakes!”

Despina’s Cream Bakery, River Vale (669-G Westwood Ave.). You’ve probably heard of Despina’s, because since 2015, this brother-and-sister duo have been selling online orders and wholesale products (you may have even seen their famous dessert bar gift boxes that were popular during the peak of COVID). But now, Despina’s has opened its first-ever brick and mortar store in River Vale, where customers can indulge in its famous dessert bars, as well as brownies, crumb cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, focaccia bread, cinnamon buns and scones, to name just a few. They’re currently only open on weekends; stop by and tell them BERGEN sent you!

Crumbl Cookies, Paramus (Bergen Town Center). There are 11 Crumbl storefronts in New Jersey, and Paramus is lucky number 12. Bergen Town Center will soon be adding a 2,138-square-foot Crumbl store to its list of tenants, where you’ll find every possible cookie flavor you could dream up. The menu will rotate out weekly—some of this week’s options include iced oatmeal, triple chocolate chip, lemon crinkle and peanut butter munch. You can also order a box with a “mystery cookie” flavor—perfect if you’re the adventurous type.
